Movies are there to make the minds think.
Open a new horizon of possibilities.
To make you rediscover the meaning of life
and what you are capable of.
Accepted, the movie i just saw did spark a new thought on my head.
High School Seniors get themselves in an unlikeable situation when they are applying for various colleges, going to tutorials to review their past lessons and of course, the sad reality that they get rejected. I know of someone who desperately wanted to go to Ateneo but he didn’t pass the ACET. I, being in the sophomore year of my high school life, shouldn’t be worrying about that. However, i am. I couldn’t handle that form of rejection when that time comes.
Going to college is considered by everyone as the way to go. La Salle, Ateneo, U.P., these are the colleges that immediately comes up to mind, volunteered for you by everyone when you are thinking of a school to go to. A school like UST and FEU doesn’t always ring because they are not what you call popular. But is being popular the reason why you go to school? Is it because you want to belong in a popular and elite school that you want to study in college?
In college you are presented with courses that would make doctors, engineers, architects, teachers, businessmen, entrepreneurs and many traditional jobs out of their enrolees. Let us not forget the popular college course: nursing! I, for one, wouldn’t allow myself to be in the shoes of these professionals. It’s because I know I don’t want these jobs. And I know that many of them who are already doctors, engineers and businessmen are not happy with their lives. The reason that they want to free their families from poverty is making them sacrifice their lifelong dreams to become who they truly want to be.
In High School there is already that pressure within us. It is becoming our way of life to worry about our grades. Whether we passed or we failed. Because I speaking as a fraction of the many... Rejection is unbearable. Subjects like Science and Math really frustrates me because I know I am not good at it. But give me subjects like art and drafting, I would surely excel at it.
So I ask you.. Why do I need to subject myself about going to school when i know that millions of possibilities don’t happen there?
You're a criminal. 'Cause you rob these kids of their creativity and their passion.
