Camp Rock

There was no class today due to the typhoon and aside from doing my homework, I watched Camp Rock! You’re right… it’s not yet shown in the Philippines but the internet has great finds! If you know what I’m talking about! (Try YouTube… that is if it’s not yet pulled down by Disney. Ha-ha!)

All of you probably know what this Disney Channel Original Movie is about. If not, then allow me to tell you that it’s just your quintessential coming-out-from-one’s-shelf type of movie. Disney Channel has already done this with the highly-successful HSM franchise. That is why it comes as no surprise that they are trying to use the same formula in the attempt of creating another mania!

As much as I do not want to compare it with HSM, I just couldn’t help it. Camp Rock didn’t live up to the hype. It is not as good as you think it is. The songs sure are inspiring and all that but it just seemed dry. For starters there was no chemistry between the lead stars and the whole cast just doesn’t seem united or “in it together.” Yes, I think that if the casting was different it would make a difference. There was so many secondary cast or maybe tertiary, for that matter, whose names you don’t or won’t even know!

On the positive side, I liked the message of the movie. Camp Rock airs on Disney Channel Asia on September 21. In the US, Camp Rock managed to be the second highest-rated DCOM behind HSM2! Let me know if you liked the movie! :D
